PCLFC Welcomes John Hill Wednesday, Feb 18th
We are in for a treat at our learning session on Wednesday, February 18th, beginning at 7:30 p.m. John F. Hill will make a presentation on "Demystifying the Competition Print."
He will go into depth on the aspects he believes have the greatest impact on creating a successful, high scoring competition print. Selecting an image to use for competition is one of the most difficult steps in the process. It can be hard to be objective about your own work, especially if the image moves you as the maker. One way to make this step easier is to review an image against a list of common issues and error which the judges will notice and which will prevent an image from scoring well. John will present and discuss his list of "image killers" and present strategies for solving the problem and when to know its just time to move on to the next image.
Based on John’s accomplishments, he can speak with authority on Competition Prints. John is an accomplished fine art photographer based in Easton, CT. He was educated at Princeton and has had a successful career as a business executive. John turned to fine art photography to realize his vision and passion for revealing the beauty of the world around him. Over the last few years he has earned over ten best in show awards, three Kodak Gallery awards, two Fuji Masterpiece awards and the Professional Photographer Association (PPA) 2007 Gold Photographer of the year award. One of John’s claims to fame is that one of his prints earned an extremely rare perfect 100 score at the PPA competitions (prints are scored by a five member panel from 0-100 on a rigorous scale where a score of 80 is considered a "merit" print).
