Bobbi Lane will be coming to PCLFC for our learning lesson on Wednesday, March 18th @ 7:30 pm.
She is a teacher at ICP and Santa Fe and at her new studio in Wilton.
Bobbi will be doing a mini-workshop for us on one of her specialties–portraits. To give you an idea of what she teaches, the following is a description of a couple of the full workshops that she offers.
***Environmental Portraits (teaches at ICP):
"Environmental portraits tell a story by allowing a glimpse into the world of another individual with a depth that surpasses the expressive capacity of a formal portrait. The subject is revealed by the photographer’s use of light, posture, expression and composition. Each element divulges another aspect of the subject’s personality, requiring careful attention to detail. Lighting is the key to creating the mood, so both natural and artificial light will be covered. The scope of the class encompasses use of tonalities, establishing rapport, choosing locations and props, and constructing ideas."
***Portraits Unplugged:
"The beauty of available light is that it’s everywhere. Any time of day and any situation can be turned into a great opportunity for environmental portraits. This workshop will help develop your ability to "see" the quality of light and apply it to "real" people. We don’t scout locations, we scout light and make the location work. We put our people in the light, critically aware of the direction as well as the quality, to create our interpretive portraits. The most important part of our picture is not the subject, but how we choose to define our subject. The emphasis is on utilizing all our tools: light, tonality, composition and color, to get our ideas stated visually."
For Bobbi’s presentation to our group, I asked her to do a little bit of both of these courses i.e. a combo of lit and natural, studio and location.
