PCLFC Field Trip: Steinhardt Gardens, Sunday, May 3
Where: Steinhardt Gardens, 433 Croton Lake Road, Mt. Kisco, NY 10549
When: Sunday, May 3, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
There is a small fee to enter the gardens, which goes toward the Garden Conservancy.
Some of you went to the Steinhardt Gardens in the Fall last year. Well, it’s time to view the gardens in it’s Spring glory…..
The Steinhardt Property with it’s hillside of 300 different cultivars of Japanese Maples, winding pine needle covered paths, a variety of plants and flowers beneath the trees, moss covered bridge over babbling water, rocks and stepping stones, with it’s acre aviary of ducks, walks around a pond, tall grasses, and Alpine Garden near the Cutting Garden filled with a variety of tulips, it’s rare, exotic animals, lemurs, camels, peacocks, it’s all Yellow Garden, all this and more on a 50 +acre property will be open to the public on Sunday, May 3rd from 10 am to 4 pm as a fund raiser for the Garden Conservancy. The entrance fee is minimal.
The property is renowned for it’s natural beauty and design. Jerome Rocherolle, an artist, who never imposes on nature in deciding where to place the trees and plants that Mr. and Mrs. Steinhardt collect, with the help of his wife, Carole and their sister Caroline Rocherolle, has been creating a unique, natural garden over the past 20 years.
Come, walk at your leisure and enjoy God’s beautiful creation.
For directions, Google 433 Croton Lake Road, Mt. Kisco, NY 10549
The property is on the left, right after Croton Lake road becomes a dirt road. Take a good look at the beautiful gates of wrought iron made in France at the entrance and at the exit of the property.
Even if you have been there before, there is always something new to see.
Hope you can join your fellow members on this day.
P.S. There are really very few places to sit, being a private property. No picnics. Also, I wouldn’t recommend a tripod, there are hundreds of people walking the trails the entire duration of the grounds being open.
To whet your appetite, here are some photographs from our field trip in November 2008.
