Some Changes you Should be Aware of Before Wednesday’s Competition

We have some changes that I would like to alert you to before our competition season gets underway.  These changes were voted on in our board meeting held last month.

I.  New Scoring System Coming

We will be purchasing a new scoring system!  That’s right, time to toss those scorecards we’ve been using and get back to the electronic age.  The Club will be purchasing the scoring system and a laptop to display the scores on.  This new scoring system runs on a computer (the only scoring system we could find online).

II.  Awards Restructuring

We are implementing a 4-tier prize structure for this coming season:

Tier 1:  Photographer of the Year — The Photographer of the Year will be awarded to the Club Member that has the highest cumulative score in any single category.

Tier 2:  Best Combined Score in Digital (open + assigned) and Best Combined Score in Print (open + assigned) — Two awards

Tier 3:  The 8 Category Cumulative Score Winners

Tier 4:  The monthly 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards which are color coded on the website under the monthly competition results and stay up on the site for the duration of this season and next season.

III. Website Addition

We’ve implemented a Perfect Score Page on our website, to honor those images that attain a perfect score of 27.

IV.  Annual Dues

New Fee Structure — One of the Club’s goals is to purchase a digital projector as an asset for the Club.  To help achieve this, one of the steps we are taking is a restructure of our annual dues.  The new fee structure is:

$45 annual membership
$25 for spouse or additional family member
$25 full time student/age 21 or under

V.  Elimination of an assigned subject category and resturcturing of remaining assigned subject categories

Probably the biggest change this coming competition season, we have eliminated one of the assigned subject categories.  The new structure has 8 categories per monthly competition:

  • Black & White Print Open Subject Class A
  • Black & White Print Open Subject Class Salon
  • Color Print Open Subject Class A
  • Color Print Open Subject Class Salon
  • Assigned Subject Print (submission may be black & white or color, they compete together in a single category)
  • Digital Color Image Open Subject Class A
  • Digital Color Image Open Subject Class Salon
  • Assigned Subject Digital Image (submission may be black & white or color, they compete together in a single category)

For our assigned subject categories, Class A and Class Salon compete together as it has always been since the inception of the Club

Your submission into either assigned subject category may be Black & White or Color — both media will compete together in the same category.

The elimination of one of the assigned subject categories will alleviate the time constraints on the Club of finishing before 10:00pm.  Several members have said that 3 assigned subject categories are too many, and the data suggests that to be the case, as there are only a couple of members that submit three assigned subject entries per month consistently.  The majority of members do not.

These changes allow members to still submit prints or digital images, in color or black & white.

I’m looking forward to another successful season for the Photography Club of Lower Fairfield County, and I’m glad you are a part of our wonderful group of photo enthusiasts!

Dave
