BEAUTY WITHIN - THE JOURNEY OF LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY

a Presentation by
Robert Rodriguez Jr

Photography is the language of light, color, shape, texture, and emotion.  Your ability to learn and use this language effectively is the basis of creating expressive and dramatic images.  There are no secrets in photography, only practice, dedication, and an open mind to the beauty and magic that nature offers us every day.  Each of us has a unique and personal vision to express creatively, and I believe this is the key to help you develop, expand, and improve your photographic potential.  Any camera today can make perfect pictures, but only by seeing photographically can you convey an emotion, express your style, and create images that rise above the mere "snapshot." In this slideshow lecture, I’ll discuss how these ideas form the basis of my photography, and how I use the modern tools available today in the service of what is most important, a meaningful image.

Our judges for this evening’s competition are:

RICHARD VENTRE

Dick, a Norwalk resident, is a Scenic Artist in the theatre, television, and motion pictures.  He has been a Chargeman Scenic Artist on more than 50 movies including the Emmy Award winning Death of a Salesman, and the Academy Award winning Sleepy Hollow.  He currently paints for the Metropolitan Opera.

Mr. Ventre’s work is a pastiche of the photographic, theatrical, digital, and painterly disciplines honed by years of experience in each.

For the past three and a half years, and working with one model, Sara Duquette, he has created images that crisscross and meld subject with background, the painted and the unpainted, with the real image and the enhanced image.

In September a print from his series "Pastiche/Sara/Adiraondacks" was awarded first place in the 2009 Adirondack Juried Art Show at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, Lake Placid, NY.

Please welcome Dick as a returning judge.
